This hill is named after the goddess Chamundeshwari and is a significant religious site for Hindus. The Chamundi Hill has a rich history that dates back to the 11th century when the Hoysala kings ruled the region. It was during this period that the Mahabaleshwara Temple was built on top of the hill. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the oldest shrines in Mysore.
